Batteries are not accepted in your local council’s kerbside residual or recycling bin, box or bag. This essentially means that if batteries are not disposed of correctly, they can cause fires in waste collection vehicles, household bins and at Recycling Centres.
Why can’t batteries be thrown in the bin?
ELECTRICAL FACTS:
- Most electrical items are recyclable and some need to be disposed of safely.
- Please remove batteries from items before recycling
- Electrical items can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
- Check with the retailer of the item - they may also have a take back scheme for recycling your items.
