Every year households and businesses across the UK throw away over 2 million tonnes of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE).
What a waste!
If it has a plug, uses batteries or requires charging, it’s an electrical appliance and we need to keep them out of our bins.
Everything from your old mobile phones to broken hairdryers and forgotten about kitchen appliances all contain valuable resources that we need to look after.
Why is it important?
Electrical devices contain a wide range of materials, from plastics to rare earth elements and even toxic substances. When we don’t dispose of them properly not only can we harm our environment, but we are wasting precious resources.
What can I do?
It’s easy to check your tech, just remember if it has a plug, uses batteries or requires charging- keep it out your bin! Instead ask yourself; can it be rehomed, repaired or recycled?
