Hazardous Waste

Helium gas canisters

Large commercial Helium gas canisters (for balloons) are not accepted in your local council’s kerbside residual or recycling bin.

The smaller gas canisters that can be purchased from your local supermarket can be disposed of at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

When disposing of the smaller canisters  – please ensure that while outdoors, release any remaining helium to ensure there is no residual pressure in the cylinder.

Leave the valve open and pierce the cylinder bursting disc, this is a depressed circle located on cylinder shoulder.

The cylinder can be then be safely taken your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
