Hazardous Waste

Helium Gas Canisters

Helium gas canisters (for balloons) are not accepted in your local council's kerbside residual or recycling bin. The smaller canisters that can be purchased from your local supermarket can be disposed of at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre. Please ensure that while outdoors, release any remaining helium to ensure there is no residual pressure in the cylinder. Leave the valve open and pierce the cylinder bursting disc, this is a depressed circle located on cylinder shoulder. The cylinder can be then be safely taken your local Recycling Centre.

Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority can dispose of hazardous household waste at some Household Waste Recycling Centre for residents, however it is dependent on what the waste is and how much of it there is. Examples of hazardous household wastes include: garden chemicals, weed-killers, insecticides, household cleaning products.
